Editing Services

I've spent the better part of the last thirty years editing & proofreading for all manner of authors, from novice to professional, local to international, in a wide variety of genres. For example, I've edited for a homeschool magazine; various textbooks; business 'best practices' manuals; retirement strategy proposals; epic, young adult, & middle grade fantasy; historical fiction; museum brochures; Bible-based fact & fiction; etc. One of my more recent projects was developing an employee handbook with job descriptions & detailed instructions for the various business expectations, roles, & responsibilities. ~ if so, welcome!

One of my counselors told me years ago that when you write, you bleed. To truly tell a story, you need to put yourself into it.

As you share your stories, whether for public or private consumption, you are pouring out a bit of yourself onto the page. You are taking quite the risk, & I would consider it an honor to come alongside to assist you in making your message as clear as possible.

Thank you ~ Laura G Johnson

Laura has been the first editor I’ve worked with where I’ve legitimately wanted to keep collaborating. She shows such heart and interest in my manuscripts. When she’s editing, it’s not just about checking off a box for a task completed and focusing on the bare language. She genuinely cares about the story and the author. She goes above and beyond pointing out why certain things work or not—not because she needs to or because I’ve asked, but because your success matters immensely to her.

Her combined talent and enthusiasm is the reason why Laura is the only editor I will work with at this point—and that’s saying a lot since I have high standards and have been solicited by countless people.

Additionally, Laura reads in the genres she edits in, and thus I can say for my niche, indie epic fantasy, she brings a valuable perspective that someone who’s out of touch with the market will miss.

My Realm Breaker series has sold over 10,000 copies in its first year alone, and I won’t let anyone touch my manuscripts for copy editing but Laura. I’m so proud to have had her as a valued collaborator and official editor for my Dragonfyre Books brand!

~ Jasmine Young, Author & Speaker, Dragonfyre Books

Laura is among my most careful and attentive beta readers, catching typos and inconsistencies most others miss. She has an impressive grasp of grammar and a sharp mind, both of which are invaluable in a reader and editor. I highly recommend her!

~ Steve Ruskin, Author of Trina Piper Thrillers & ExoRok Rebels

I love how Laura offers choices in fixing or rewording a problem area. I so appreciate that. Also appreciate her eagle eye in finding my goofs. I always run my documents through ProWriting Aide, which proves AI is not better than the human eye.

~ T. A., writing as Tammera Mart

Laura is an absolutely amazing proofreader. Not only does she correct the things you would expect, she finds inconsistencies in your work that almost no one would catch. She is incredible.

~ Keith Lee, President, Keith Lee Business Systems

Laura G. Johnson is a careful, consistent and thoughtful proofreader. Not only does she catch mistakes, but she makes suggestions for corrections and gives reasons for those suggestions. She researches a problem until she has found an answer and doesn’t leave a stone unturned. We will continue to work with Laura because she is professional and proficient in her work, clear in her communication and friendly in her tone. She is a delight to work with.

~ Terri Johnson, Knowledge Quest, Inc.

Laura G. Johnson is a fantastic editor. She’s been my go to pro for all of my recent books, even surpassing the editors at my publisher. Her service is more than reasonable and quite swift, which really helps when you’ve got tight deadlines. She’s one Red Pen I’m happy to have work on my manuscripts. I recommend her service highly.

~ Wayne Thomas Batson, Bestselling Author of The Door Within Trilogy

At a time I was in search of an editor, Wayne Thomas Batson recommended Laura G. Johnson. I received detailed critiquing from her and helpful comments. It was important to me that the meanings of the stories I showed her stayed the same, and her editing not only kept the story alive but also enhanced what I was writing. I will always be thankful for her work.
